This session will focus on board development, engagement, and getting your board to fundraise for your organization. Board roles and responsibilities will be covered from the law with duty of care, duty of obedience, and duty of loyalty to activities such as recruitment and onboarding of new members. Learn the five tips for a successful board, plus best practices for board size, composition and committee work.
Engagement of board members is often cited as one of the biggest challenges for a chair or CEO. Learn some tricks with templates to encourage board engagement, best practices for agendas, and how to encourage strategic conversations. Based on GCN’s Nonprofit Consulting Group’s work with more than 100 boards each year, we hear from our experience what works and what can disengage a board.
Fundraising is the second most often mentioned trouble spot for staffing a board. GCN has designed and urges board members to adopt one of three roles in fundraising, and we have a role-play for practicing “the ask” and makes fundraising a role for everyone on the board.
Join us for a lively, practical, and fun training on how to develop and engage your board of directors.
