Overview

Nonprofits and funders are often responding to the same cultural trends, yet nonprofits can find themselves struggling to communicate their needs in a way that aligns with funder priorities. Pursuing equity goals, implementing new technology, and managing talent through new ways of working are just a few examples of the challenges that the sector is grappling with. When nonprofits are focused on making their case through the lens of their own mission, they can miss opportunities to find common ground with their potential funders.

In this conversation, PEAK Grantmaking President and CEO Satonya Fair will join GCN CEO Karen Beavor to discuss the issues that are top-of-mind for funders, how they approach those issues, and what nonprofits can do to align their expectations, adjust their approach, and build stronger relationships with funders.

About our presenter

As president and CEO of PEAK Grantmaking, Satonya Fair works closely with the grantmaking professionals who make up their nationwide membership, helping them to establish values-driven practices in philanthropy – encompassing equity, diversity, and inclusion; awareness of power dynamics; and a commitment to learning, sharing, and evolving. At the same time, Satonya also cultivates strong partnerships with other philanthropy-serving organizations and the broader philanthropic sector as an ambassador, thought leader, and collaborator. Satonya brings more than 25 years of experience working in nonprofit and philanthropic roles to her position, having served as vice president and chief philanthropy officer at The Executive Leadership Council and director of grants management at The Annie E. Casey Foundation.
