Overview

For the past decade, individual donor contributions made to nonprofits constituted more of the average nonprofit’s revenue than all other sources combined. Individual donor development is essential to any nonprofit seeking sustainability and scale.

Regardless of the size, mission, or budget of your organization, planned giving should be a part of your development plan. If you have a solid donor base, sound infrastructure and a cohesive board, you already have the tools you’ll need to implement a planned giving program.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the current environment and major trends around individual giving.
  • Define the elements of a donor pipeline and moves management.
  • Explain best practices in gift processing and donor acknowledgement.
  • Discuss trends and key components in planned-giving strategies.

Audience

Whether staff, volunteer, or board member, if you are new to nonprofits or new to fundraising, this series of classes is for you! The individual courses in the Certificate of Fundraising Essentials are at the 100 (introductory) level and designed for people looking for the fundamentals of primary revenue sources and of managing successful fundraising and development operations.

For intermediate/advanced coursework on these topics, please check out our additional Fundraising and Development certificates and courses in our Course Catalog.
