Overview

This virtual evening workshop is designed to help those that want to start a nonprofit organization in their community and those in the first year of startup.

Passion may get you started, but government, funders, and policies are critical if you are to be successful. Many people have the opinion that there are too many nonprofits, and duplication is causing greater competition for funding. Learn how to overcome these perceptions and challenges in the community, and ensure you are on a path toward success.

The workshop covers the legal, financial, planning, governance, and fundraising areas needed to start a successful nonprofit organization.

Note: How to Start a Nonprofit is not covered by the NU Subscription plan.

Key Concepts

  • Legal issues – from name registration through tax-exempt status
  • Incorporation and bylaws
  • Board governance, including nonprofit board roles and responsibilities
  • Mission, Vision, and Values – building your business plan and case for support
  • Fundraising – grant writing to donor engagement
  • Building your support team

Join other individuals in a lively virtual workshop with case examples and practical materials for helping you start a nonprofit organization. Learn about online resources, assessments, and tools to ease the process of creating the essential legal documents and other materials needed for starting your nonprofit.
