Stepping into a leadership role requires more than a new title – it requires a shift in how you think, communicate, and show up for your team. As your responsibilities grow, you’re expected to move beyond individual contributions and begin leading people, priorities, and outcomes in new ways. That transition can feel unclear and challenging.
Drawing on the work of career transition expert Michael Watkins, this free one-hour session, led by GCN CEO Karen Beavor, introduces the seven key shifts that separate managing from leading: from specialist to generalist, from problem-solver to agenda-setter, from day-to-day tactician to strategic thinker, and beyond.
This session is open to anyone and free to attend – and serves as a natural introduction to GCN’s Leading Individuals | Leadership Accelerator Module 1, a five-session series starting July 29 that gives nonprofit leaders the tools to put these shifts into practice.
