Overview

Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, and other platforms offer different ways to reach and engage audiences – but your nonprofit doesn’t need to be everywhere. The key is understanding where your audiences are and how they use each platform.

This session provides a practical look at today’s major social media platforms and how nonprofits can use them effectively. You’ll explore the audiences, content formats, and engagement opportunities associated with each platform and practice adapting messages and content to fit different channels.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, you will be able to:
  • Compare major social media platforms and their strengths for nonprofit communications and engagement.
  • Select platforms based on organizational goals, target audiences, content needs, and available capacity.
  • Adapt messages and content for the audiences, formats, and expectations of different social media platforms.

Audience

  • Department heads, team leaders, and other decision-makers in development/fundraising, marketing, or communications
  • Managers, coordinators, and specialists in development/fundraising, marketing, or communications
  • Any nonprofit professional responsible for online and digital communications
  • Aspiring nonprofit marketers, communicators, fundraisers, or development officers
