Grantmakers

Gas South announced $2.2 million in grants, benefiting 10 nonprofits across Georgia and Florida that include 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Covenant House, and YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta.

Nonprofits

Georgia CORE was awarded a grant from the USDA Health Resources and Services Administration, providing them and their partners in Jesup and Savannah with a total of $1.2 million, over 4 years, to serve rural cancer patients in Southeast Georgia.

Trees Atlanta received a $10 million grant for urban tree canopy protection as part of an investment by the cities of Atlanta and Decatur using funds from the USDA Forest Service.

Georgia Audubon was awarded a grant from the Fish & Wildlife Foundation to restore 10 acres of natural habitat in the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area to protect the South River Watershed.

▼ St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, recognizing them as one of the state’s highest performing schools.

CareerRise received a $6.2 million grant from the Arthur M. Blank Foundation in support of their Westside Works neighborhood-based workforce collaborative.

Chattahoochee Nature Center received an award from Yardi Systems to support their environmental education, conservation, wellness, and recreation programs.

Wellspring Living was awarded $25,000 from the United to Safeguard America from Illegal Trade partnership to support their continuing fight against human trafficking.

At their 2023 Legacy Awards gala, attended by more that 300 supporters, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta raised over $450,000 for youth mentoring.

CHRIS 180 celebrated the grand opening of their new Zone 3 Community Initiatives headquarters in Atlanta, housing their Cure Violence Atlanta, Teen Violence Reduction, and Trauma Response Network programs. In addition, CHRIS 180 trained 285 people in suicide prevention techniques through 17 free workshops held throughout September.

▼ HomeAid Atlanta led a Care Day for Making A Way Housing on September 15, providing over $9,500 in painting, cleaning, and organization work with their in-kind donor and volunteer partners.

TADA Foundation received a $10,000 donation from The Waterfall Foundation supporting their Positive Motion dance program for children with disabilities.

Apparo worked with volunteers from Cox Communications and OptML to help Rebuilding Together – Atlanta overcome challenges in donor and board engagement, social media marketing, HR, and accounting.

People

Trees Atlanta welcomed new Chief Operating Officer Suzie Sloan.

Children’s Museum of Atlanta added four new members to their board: Fabiola Charles Stokes, Tracy Reznik, Dr. Seema Csukas, and Matthew Tollenaer.

HealthMPowers announced that Crystal Lazarus, Nafesa Walters-Smith, and Yolanda Reid-Wheeler have joined their board of directors.

The Piedmont Park Conservancy selected Doug Widener as new President and CEO, with an expected start date in late October.

Goodwill of North Georgia welcomed Aiten Musavea McPherson and Clyde E. Mize Jr. to their board.

Wellspring Living announced that Christian Murphy will become new CEO as of January 1, 2024.

South Arts welcomed new board members Gina Charbonnet, Sejal Mehta, Phillip March Jones, and Alan Rothschild Jr.

Horizons Atlanta has named Meredith Gurley Johnson as their new Executive Director.

Big Brothers Big SIsters of Metro Atlanta recently announced four new additions to their board: Jewanna Gaither, Matt Gonsalves, Thomas Hamlin, and Susan Starnes.

Communities in Schools of Georgia welcomed five new board members: Cristophe Cadiou, Rashidah Hasan, Alexandra Hernandez, Norman C. Sauce III, and Victoria Villalba.

GCN is celebrating the anniversary of four Nonprofit University faculty this month: Brandon Smith, 9 years; Tracey Knight, 7 years; Brandi Rae Hicks, 5 years; and Toni Paz, 4 years.
