Worth sharing

Quest Community Development Corporation announced a partnership with AT&T to produce The Westside Wise Podcast, an initiative bringing like-minded community leaders, activists, and organizers together to find solutions to the social challenges facing communities of color.

Grantmakers

The Home Depot Foundation celebrated Black History Month by making $185,000 in grants to Atlanta-based Black-led and Black-benefitting nonprofit partners. In addition, the Foundation provided a grant of $500,000 to Operation Homefront for veteran housing initiatives.

▼ In partnership with the Urban League of Greater Atlanta, the City of Atlanta awarded 3D Girls, Inc. grant funds of $50,000 to support their youth mentoring program, Girls Link Up.

Nonprofits

Jerusalem House received a $200,000 program grant to bolster its 360° Education, Workforce Development, and Life Skills program for residents affected by HIV/AIDS.

HomeAid Atlanta held its first 2023 Care Day on February 10 at the site of Ascensa Health Women’s Recovery Residence in Midtown, which provided a savings of $13,000 in demolition services.

▼ The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta Rising Together campaign received $10 million from Whitehead Foundation.

At their latest Open House, Lekotek of Georgia welcomed 40 visitors (donors, teachers, and therapists) to tour their new 4,000-square-foot Tucker headquarters, featuring an innovative sensory room. In addition, Lekotek raised over $36,000 at their Brewfest fundraiser in February.

CHRIS 180 has been awarded a four-year grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to develop a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center. CHRIS 180 was one of five recipients in Georgia, and the only private provider named.

People

GCN marked the five-year anniversary of funding specialist Brenda Johnson, who will be facilitating sessions in the Certificate of Annual Giving Campaigns series taking place in June.

Quest Community Development Corporation welcomed new board members Bob Moffat, Christopher Gilmore, Gregory Boler, and Shakita Chester.


Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta named Rita Breen as Board Chair and Jennifer Burns as Vice Chair.

The MCP Foundation, which supports the efforts of Midtown Connector Park, named Doug Hooker CEO.

Goodwill of North Georgia added new board members Alicen Blair, Michelle Jackson, and Winnifer Thomas-Cox. New officers appointed to the board are Dr. Kofi Smith, Dr. DeRetta Cole Rhodes, Edward Ferguson, Ellen Stern, and Kirk Halpern.

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity welcomed new board members Lille Louise-Fils, R. Kirk Rich, and Christopher Goode.

Rainbow Village added new board members Deon Tucker, Susie Colatt, and Deborah Latham. In addition, Cheryl Deluca-Johnson has been named Special Projects Coordinator.


The Hambidge Center welcomed new trustees Marian Liou, Michael Diffenderfer, Akilah Wise, and Nancy Shaidnagle.

The National Center for Civil and Human Rights named new board directors Garry Capers and Tim Wilkerson.

Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities welcomed board members Patrick Belinksi, Cromwell Baun, and Sam Hosokawa.

Quest Community Development Corporation added new board members Gregory Boler, Shakita Chester, Christopher Gilmore, and Bob Moffat.

CaringWorks welcomed Jeff Adams to their board.
