Worth sharing

On August 11, Alston & Bird will host a free program for nonprofits on building a business continuity and disaster recovery plan. Register now for the one-hour online event.

South Arts has opened applications for its new Micro Accessibility Grant program, providing up to $2,500 for organizations to make arts programs more accessible to persons with disabilities.

Grantmakers

Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta announced its first round of grants under their new TogetherATL strategic plan, centering equity and shared prosperity. A total of $645,000 was awarded among six recipients through the Housing and Neighborhoods and the Power and Leadership programs.

CURE Childhood Cancer announced a round of research grants totalling $4.7 million, its largest grant cycle yet, supporting pediatric cancer research institutions across the U.S.

Nonprofits

Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity raised over $30,000 through their annual Women Build Initiative, which also convened women from South Metro Atlanta throughout May and June to build for local families.

DeKalb Habitat for Humanity was selected to receive a Black Women Impact Grant through the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women initiative.

Agnes Scott College was awarded a $750,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to fund their 3-year “Acknowledging Our Past: Acting Now for a Transformed Future” initiative, which Agnes Scott leaders discussed on a recent episode of WABE’s “A Closer Look with Rose Scott.”

Georgia Audubon was awarded a grant from the Robert F. Schumann Foundation, allowing them to expand bird-friendly habitat restoration work on Jekyll Island by three additional acres.

Among the nonprofits receiving grants at the 2022 Beloved Benefit, presented by Arthur Blank and Dan Cathy: Goodwill of North Georgia, Latin American Association, Quest Community Development Organization, and Inspiritus.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta partnered with Micron to host the first Chip Camp in Atlanta, giving 25 students a two-day STEM-education experience, including projects like building circuits, programming robots, and launching rockets.

On July 21, HomeAid Atlanta volunteers provided $5,200 in materials and work for Solomon’s Temple Foundation; over seven Care Days since 2015, HomeAid has saved the organization a total of $90,000.

People

StreetWise Georgia has announced the addition of new Warehouse Manager Charlene Mitchell.

Georgia CASA ED Jennifer King was selected to serve on both the State and National Leadership Councils for the National CASA/GAL Association for Children. In addition, the board of Georgia CASA added new members Katherine Herndon, Jeff Sprinkle, and Danielle Wilkes; elected Bernadette Hartfield as a life board member; welcomed back The Honorable Anne Barnes and Julia Neighbors; and elected new officers in Chair Lauren Hyatt, Vice Chair Dr. Kim Harrington, Secretary Dianne Scoggins, and Treasurer Daniel Hathaway.

Georgians for a Healthy Future welcomed four new board members: Jennifer Baugh, Dr. Sar Medoff, Rachel Stanley, and Grace Zoller.

Lee Thompson Young Foundation Founder and Board President Tamu Lewis released her first book, Surviving the Mental Health Tank: 5 Keys To Cultivating Emotional Well-Being For Yourself And Your Loved Ones, sales of which will support the Foundation.

Agnes Scott College welcomed five new members to its board of trustees: Tapaswee Chandele, Katie Fahs, Ellen P. Gaffney, Sandra “Sandy” Gordon, and Elizabeth A. “Lizanne” Stephenson.

Atlanta Community Food Bank named Sharay Erskine as new Chief Information Officer and Kenneth Hill as Chief Supply Chain Officer.

The board of trustees for the Tull Charitable Foundation welcomed new members Tina Fernandez and Glen Jackson.

Tommy Nobis Center has added Mitesh Patel to their board of directors.

Habitat for Humanity International has welcomed Tolli Love as their new Chief Development Officer.

Goodwill of North Georgia welcomed Alicen Blair and Winnifer Thomas-Cox to their board, and appointed the following officers: Chair Kofi Smith, Vice Chair DeRetta Cole Rhodes, Treasurer Edward Ferguson, Secretary Ellen Stern, and Immediate Past Chair Kirk Halpern.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta announced its board of directors for 2022: Jon Babul, Lauren Bricks, Madeline Chadwick, Ryan Esparza, Camille Hannans, Jeff Hanson, Aiten McPherson, John Mori, Erin Mitchell Richeson, Elizabeth Silbert, Paul Trotti, and Stephen Vault.
