Member Event | Nonprofit Watchdogs: Who are the nonprofit evaluators and what are they looking for?

This session will focus on reviewing the online rating and review sites that have quickly become the new watchdogs for nonprofit organizations. Donors, including foundation and corporate staff, use these sites to review, monitor, and understand nonprofits as part of their funding process. Each site is somewhat different, using its own resources to track and evaluate nonprofits. It’s important to understand how each gathers and uses data to evaluate your organization – for instance, data is often gleaned from your 990, among other sources – and how they assign scores, levels, or other rating systems.

Join partners from nonprofit auditing firm Mauldin & Jenkins, who will explain each site’s purpose, ratings, and resources. We encourage you to attend and find out, from the experts, how to prepare your organization to get a favorable write-up from the current watchdogs of the sector.

About the presenters

Jeff Fucito, CPA, is Mauldin & Jenkins’s Partner-in-Charge in Atlanta

Jeff has specialized in audit and tax services for nonprofit organizations since joining Mauldin & Jenkins, and is currently responsible for the firm’s nonprofit practice. A frequent speaker at nonprofit events, Jeff’s experience also includes audit, reimbursement, and tax experience with long-term care facilities and other health care entities, manufacturing and distribution entity services, income tax planning, income tax preparation, and consultation for individuals and corporations.

Jeff also serves on the firm’s Executive Committee and Leadership Career and Development Committee, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Georgia Health Care Association, and GCN. He has served on the board for the Georgia Institute on Aging, and is past Committee Chair for the Georgia Society of CPA’s Not-For-Profit Training Task Force.


Aleisa K. Howell, CPA, CGFM, is a Mauldin & Jenkins Partner in Atlanta

Prior to joining Mauldin & Jenkins, Aleisa specialized in the nonprofit and governmental practice for KPMG. Aleisa is a CPA and Certified Government Finance Manager, and serves on the Georgia Society of CPA’s Not-For-Profit Task Force. She also serves as a technical reviewer and committee member for the National Government Finance Officers Association’s certificate of excellence in financial reporting program, and is a member of the Association of Government Accountants, the National and Southern Associations of College and University Business Officers Associations, and GCN.
