Grand Challenges Explorations

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is accepting applications for Round 12 of its Grand Challenges Explorations initiative, an accelerated grant program that encourages bold approaches aimed at improving the lives of the world's poorest people. Anyone—students, scientists, entrepreneurs—with a transformative idea are invited to apply.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Health Policy Fellows
Deadline: November 13
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows program is designed to provide a comprehensive fellowship experience at the nexus of health science, policy, and politics in Washington, D.C. The program provides an outstanding opportunity for exceptional midcareer health professionals and behavioral and social scientists with an interest in health and healthcare policy.

Mary Byron Project
The Roth Award
Deadline: November 22
The Mary Byron Project has created the Roth Award to reward and spotlight domestic violence programs that address the needs of underserved populations. Eligible programs provide services to populations that traditionally do not know how to avail themselves of services or who are too ashamed to find them.

The Avon Foundation for Women
Global Breast Cancer Scholar Program
Deadline: November 25
The Avon Foundation for Women is accepting Letters of Intent for the second class of its Avon Global Breast Cancer Clinical Scholars Program, which will train breast cancer specialists living outside the United States at twelve leading Avon Foundation-funded U.S. breast cancer centers beginning in May 2014. The goal of the Avon Global Scholars program is to provide advanced training to doctors so they can bring new skills and information to their home countries that improve the treatment and care of breast cancer patients.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries
LBF Grant
Deadline: December 2
The Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries, a component fund of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region in Washington, D.C., seeks to provide books and reading materials to school libraries and students that most need them. The foundation provides grants of up to $5,000 to help school libraries expand, update, and diversify their book collections. In 2013, the foundation received over five hundred applications and awarded more than two hundred grants.

Healthcare Georgia Foundation
Joseph D. Greene Community Service Award
Deadline: December 16
The Healthcare Georgia Foundation is accepting nominations for the 2014 Joseph D. Greene Community Service Award, which honors individuals, nonprofit health organizations, and community collaboratives committed to improving the quality of health and health care in the communities they serve. The award is open to healthcare practitioners who volunteer their services; board members who go above and beyond the call of duty; and nonprofit health organizations that exemplify collaborative approaches to improve the health and well-being of their community.

Georgia State College of Law
Faculty Fellowship Program
Deadline: December 30
The Center for Law, Health & Society at Georgia State University College of Law is leading an initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for a faculty fellowship program to promote public health law education. Ten faculty members with full-time appointments in law schools or schools/programs of public health will be selected to participate in the yearlong program, which is designed to foster innovations in educational programming and to build a strong learning community.

Project Orange Fund
Deadline: December 31
The Fiskars Corporation, a global supplier of consumer products for the home, garden, and outdoors, has announced that it is accepting applications for 2014 Project Orange Thumb garden grants and makeovers in the United States and Canada. Fiskars' Project Orange Thumb program provides tools, materials, and other support to help communities reach their goals for neighborhood beautification, community collaboration, and healthy, sustainable food sources.
