A record-breaking third Georgia Gives Day!
The Georgia Center for Nonprofits recognizes the critical role of nonprofits to thriving communities and that is why we feel so strongly about bringing greater public awareness to their work and worth. Georgia Gives Day is our beacon call for people in communities across the state to join us in our work and help raise needed resources to accomplish it. Yesterday, in our third annual “flashmob of giving,” Georgians heard that message, and large numbers of them followed through to recognize and financially support the causes that make a difference in their lives and communities.
As the clock struck midnight, we broke all Georgia Gives Day records, bringing in $2,296,759 from 17,742 donations to more than 2,000 participating nonprofits statewide. In fact, Georgia Gives Day 2014 raised more money than the first two years combined! And since we launched GAgivesday.org 25 months ago as a year-round giving platform, we have raised more than $4.8 million for Georgia’s nonprofits.
And the giving continues: GAgivesday.org is open for donations year-round, and organizations not currently participating will be able to enroll shortly to leverage this opportunity for end-of-year giving.
Beyond the funds received, the Georgia Gives initiative is accomplishing something much more: it is proving the power of partnership and the potential of a uniquely massive collaboration between nonprofits, foundations, companies, government, and individuals who care. Together, we have created a powerful annual giving movement in Georgia that will only continue to grow.

Ames Scullin O’Haire designed the logo, homepage carousel images and billboards, and was the mastermind behind the Gives Day television, radio and online ad campaign. Our public relations team at Edelman has donated thousands of hours in our first three years, creating the media and digital groundswell, and has been awarded commendations from the Public Relations Society of America and the International Association for Business Communicators for their GA Gives Day work. Encyclomedia continued to assist with videography and production of our Gives Day PSAs and event.
Our media partners at Cox Media Group, WSB-TV Family 2 Family, WXIA-TV 11Alive, AutoTrader.com, Outdoor Advertising Association of Georgia and the Georgia Association of Broadcasters entire membership of stations have all stepped up to air the PSAs, conduct interviews, and include us in their digital and social outlets.
The Community Foundation of Central Georgia and the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley partnered with us to run their incentive programs through GA Gives Day.
Our financial sponsors and incentive fund sponsors have been incredibly important and supportive of this effort including—gifts through Wells Fargo’s Days of Giving; the Knight Foundation’s financial incentive funds directed to nonprofits in Macon, Milledgeville and Columbus; SunTrust Foundation’s support of financial wellness programming; the Arby’s Foundation support of hunger programming; Chick-fil-A’s support of our media and public outreach; generous support from The Coca-Cola Company, Mohawk Industries, Georgia Power, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Intimacy, the Gwinnett Braves, and from Fiserv/Popmoney.
Finally, we want to thank our elected leaders, including Governor Nathan Deal, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, Secretary of State Brian Kemp and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed for their enthusiastic support. Governor Deal took time to record a video thanking Georgians for their support of Gives Day and urged them to donate on November 13th.
